My husband and I have truly been BLESSED by the freindship and love of Gary. Just minites before surgery he called to let us know that he loved us . God knew he was tired ,God knew he had faught the good fight and it was time for one of his toughest angels to come home to start the other part of his life. I know Gary is getting everything ready for all of us, so when we get to that place, Gary will be telling us all what to do. I am thankfull for all the conversations and laughs we shared, Gary was a true friend in deed.

I am assured through his word that your soul is everlastingly in a safe place and we will be together again some day. Your love has been truly manifested to me by your kind words to all of our family members and friends regarding the loving, caring relationship we shared as a husband and wife. I miss your presence, your comfort, your voice, your warm touch and your laughter. I truly miss you so much. I thank the true God in the heavens that I was chosen to be the one obliged to honor my truly beloved, Gary. I feel that our love and our life together, though short, is the perfect example of a man and women that has been bound together in matrimoney through the blessings of God. The time we shared is only a blink of an eye to God and in a blink of an eye we will be together again. I will forever wait to be with my True Love once again. Your Ever Loving Wife ~ Irene The Book of Matthew, Chapter 19, verses 5 and 6.

To My Gary, On July 18, 1997 we gave our hearts to each other and bonded in union as a husband and wife. We shared many blessings from the one true God in the heavens. We shared our love, we shared our dreams, we shared our feelings, we shared our burdens, we shared our tears and we shared our prayers. Most of all, we made a home together and shared our children, our families and our friends. Through the years, you always gave me the very best of yourself. There was never any selfishness in your heart. If I could only turn back the clock, I would hug and kiss you more, I would tell you "I Love You" more, I would hold your hand more, and I would spend more time with you and most of all, I would show how much I appreciated you. We had so much more that we planned to do together. It was our dream to retire together and travel to Niagara Falls, the Grand Canyons, Yosemite Park, Lake Tahoe and other places. We wanted to spend more time with our families and friends. We had so much more we wanted to say to each other. Before we realized it, time escaped us. On October 11, 2008 an angel called your name and gently spoke to you. His calming voice let know your place in heaven is now ready for your arrival. I wanted to grapple with this angel, but I realized that would have been selfish of me. Together, we battled your illness and together we suffered. I wanted to continue the battle just to keep you near to me, but God saw it differently. I couldn't bare to fight the spirit of the one true God that dearly blessed our marriage and our lives together, so I accepted his decision with the deepest pain and sorrow that I have ever felt before now. This angel lead you away from me and took you to a peaceful place. God has manifested his spirit and love on the both of us. He took away the pain and suffering we both endured through your long time of illness and he made sure you peacefully fell asleep in death. I am assured through his word that your soul is everlastingly ...

I am at a loss for words. My father loved life and lived it to its fullest. He was charming, smart and in my sister Angela’s words, “a really cool dude”. My father will be greatly missed in the Whitsett family. We depended on him a great deal. What I will cherish the most are his words of advice. I hear his words of wisdom speaking to me through out my day. Irene, Jason, and Joshua will forever be apart of our family. Finally, in the words of my baby sister Donnicia, “Daddy, I’ll see you when I get there”.

Irene, there are no words that can express the sorrow I feel for you in the loss of your husband. He was a good man that became your friend, your lover, your husband and soul mate. Unfortunately, being so far away we never had the opportunity to really know him, but when we were able to visit the two of you it was clear you were each others world. Try not to dwell too much on your loss but instead remember the happiness, love and joy he brought to you through his love, and remember to thank God for the new friends and family he brought into your life. Irene, please remember to 'take care of yourself during this time', Gary is watching over you and would want that for you.

No words can properly fill the void during this time of loss. Just know that prayer changes things and it's going to get better, just take it one day at a time!

There is nothing we can do to make him come back. There are no words we can say that can replace the words you long to hear. There are no answers we can give that will satisfy your questions. There is not another soul we can introduce that will ever replace his. And, there is no love we can offer that will ever replace the love you shared. we can not promise your broken heart will ever be complete. We will not say it could have been worse. We will not deny it was a tragedy. We will not lie and tell you he will come back. He never really left. We do promise he hears you when you speak. We will say he loves you no matter the distance. We will not deny he is in a better place. And, We will not lie; he is waiting to greet you someday. He is every you step you take. He is in everything you do. He is the air you breathe. He is every beat of your heart. “He is like the wind. You can not see him...but you will always feel him".
Gary always looked for the good in all. He always had a good word to say, and gave good advice when needed. When he spoke about Irene, the love in his voice and the sparkle in his eye, you knew they where soulmates for eternity. He will be greatly missed...

An email I sent out before my Buddy passed. I love you Gary you are eternally my brother and best friend. Irene you and I are and will always be brother and sister. I love you snd him so.
As I sit here today, I realize something quite profound, at least in my world it is. Right now as I type this one of my dearest friends lay dying in a hospital 350 miles away. I cannot say it is surprising, but unwanted yes. Everyday pain is a part of me I live, eat, and drink in physical pain 24/7, but pain of the heart comes less frequently. We all deal with grief in our own way, and in my own observation some grieve more openly than others, some contain and maintain a stoic posture that befuddles me. I have friends who lose a home and cry, lose a job and come apart, but to lose someone you love is incomparable, when you truly love. I am very sad today and will be for a while but I am even sadder for my friends who don’t understand and have no compassion for such in their hearts. Today I realize that I am sad for those who don’t have a friend such as mine that I love dearly, and don’t have a friend they can cry for. Even though I will miss my friend I thank the lord for letting me have him for as long as I have.

I wanted to take a moment to express to the family how sorry I am for the loss of such a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother. I truly understand the hurt and pain of losing someone so dear to you. Our blessing is that we know where they are and that we will be with them again one day. You all will remain in my thoughts and prayers. All my love. Leslie and Pailen
